Publica (PBL) is an interesting blockchain-based project – it is a platform that is trying to redefine how books are published and how authors get access to funding for their work. They actually just released their e-reader for both iOS and Android devices:

Well, this blockchain venture has a big event coming up: its first big-name author is holding a book ICO. Yes, a book ICO – it’s pretty much what you think it is.
Publica says that “a Book ICO allows authors to pre-sell copies of their upcoming works as readable tokens. By doing so, authors are able to activate and reward their early supporters, receive the funds needed to finish their works, and tap into the power of the blockchain.”
It’s a pretty simple 3-step process for authors to use the platform to launch their book.
The very first book ICO to launch on this network is just about two days away. The author’s name is Matthew Kepnes, and he also goes by “Nomadic Matt” since he is a travel writer. His work has been featured on major publications like the Huffington Post and the Washington Post – not to mention the fact that he is a bestselling author with over 100,000 Twitter followers.
The first book, Backpacker’s Guide to Europe, is described by the author like this:
“I’ve visited Europe every summer for the past decade and always find something new that blows my mind. In this guide, you will find my very best budget tips, money saving advice, tips on places to stay, things to see and do, and where to eat It doesn’t matter what type of vacation you are going on – cruise, backpacking trip, island getaway, 2 week holiday, round the world trip, or a family vacation.”
